Distracted Driving

An accident can happen in an instant. That's why it's important to for drivers to keep their attention focused on the roadway.

Distracted driving is becoming one of the fast-growing epidemics on American highways. Distracted driving is when the driver of an automobile engages in activity that could distract them from the task of driving, increasing their risk of causing an automobile accident and injuring others. With today's ever-increasing technology, the most common forms of distracted driving involve using a mobile device while driving-sending or reading text messages, checking emails, surfing the internet or using a cell phone are all unsafe while driving.

Statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) indicate that an alarming number of our friends, family and colleagues are injured as a result of accidents caused by distracted drivers every year. According to statistics, more than 6,500 people were killed in crashes caused by distracted drivers in 2010 & 2011. Every day distracted drivers cause more than 1,000 accidents. This year alone it is estimated that there have been more than 500,000 accidents caused by drivers using cell phones.

Most states have enacted laws prohibiting texting while driving. It is currently illegal in Georgia to text while driving. Additionally, Georgia prohibits all teen drivers from using cell phones while driving.
