Susan D. Brown recently joined the firm, after spending the majority of her thirty-six year career building a solo law practice which was known throughout Northeast Georgia, specializing in family law. With proven experience Susan is known for her in-depth knowledge of the law and assertive courtroom presence.

Susan has represented over 3000 families in Northeast Georgia, acquiring expertise in Superior, Juvenile and Probate Courts, all of which deal with custody with different standards and procedures. Susan has provided representation to clients in contested and uncontested divorces, child custody, visitation, and child support, alimony, modification of support and custody, visitation, legitimation and paternity actions, contempt, grandparent and third-party custody, grandparent visitation, equitable caregivers, interstate custody matters, and Juvenile Court custody.

Susan places an emphasis on amicable resolution whenever possible, helping clients to obtain the best outcome possible for their families, as quickly and cost-efficiently as possible. When cases are not able to be resolved by agreement or through mediation, Susan is a zealous and strategic representative in court, using her experience, training and extensive knowledge of the law to the benefit of her clients.

A specialty area of Susan’s practice is adoption. She has assisted numerous birth parents and adoptive parents in the adoption process over the years, and handles adoptions involving private placement, agencies, DFACS, interstate, international, step-parent and adult adoption. Susan remains friends with many of her adoption clients and their children, many of whom are now adults, and often receives cards and updates from them.

A registered general civil and domestic mediator since 2007, Susan finds mediation to be a valuable tool in resolution of domestic disputes, including those involving domestic violence. Her professional training includes general civil, domestic and domestic violence mediation, and arbitration. Susan is on mediator rosters throughout Northeast Georgia.

Trained as a Guardian ad Litem in the 1990s, Susan represents the best interest of children in complex litigation and high conflict custody cases in Superior Court and in dependency matters in Juvenile Court. She has extensive training in Juvenile Court representation, and has been a presenter for the Georgia Supreme Court Juvenile Justice Project.  Recently Susan has begun employing the revised child support calculators, which take into account actual parenting time, and has served as a prompter, training other Georgia attorneys in use of the Child Support Calculators. Each of these experiences assist Susan’s clients by providing thorough familiarity with family law in all areas.

Susan began her career as a Staff Attorney for the Honorable Richard W. Story for three years following law school in Hall, Dawson, Lumpkin and White Counties, assisting the court in all aspects of criminal, civil and domestic cases. Most recently, Susan took a break from private practice to serve as Staff Attorney for the Honorable Clint G. Bearden in Hall and Dawson Counties, once again assisting the local courts, conducting research, drafting orders, and engaging in several training opportunities to further expand her knowledge of domestic, civil, real estate and probate law.

Her new role at Coleman, Chambers & Rogers, LLP will allow Susan to continue her dedication to serving the families and children of the Northeast Georgia area in all aspects of family law, mediation, and Guardian ad Litem work.

When Susan is not practicing law, she enjoys spending time with her husband, two adult sons and their families. In any time Susan has left after spoiling her grandchildren, Susan enjoys participating in choir and children’s ministry, and is a 3rd Degree blackbelt in Shidokan Karate.
