Guardian Ad Litem Throughout Northeast Georgia

A guardian ad litem (GAL) is a person appointed to represent the best interest of children in a case involving contested child custody. In the courts of Northeast Georgia, most GALs are attorneys who have received training in child behavior and have been approved by local courts. When the Court appoints a GAL, it is usually because the parties have very different views on what is best for the children and the Court or the parties believe a third party is needed to look out for the children’s best interests.

Susan D. Brown has served as a guardian ad litem in dozens of complex custody matters in both Superior and Juvenile Courts and, in addition to her experience as a family law attorney, has training in child psychology, parental alienation, estrangement, parent-child reunification, and working with parents with substance abuse issues.

The GAL serves as an investigator, but is also an expert witness. Their opinions are taken into consideration by the court, and Susan is known for completing thorough investigations and representing the interests of children for over 35 years.
